- Former ECW valet and girlfriend of The Blue Meanie, Jasim St. Claire, is featured in the October issue of Hustler magazine.
- The long awaited DVD that chronicles the Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels feud is due on October 25.
- Shane Helms, there is an app for that at itunes.
- Big Brother star Jessie Godderz has signed with Impact Wrestling. The former bodybuilder is being trained by the Dudley Boys.
- Abdullah the Butcher is being sued by former Canadian wrestler Devon Nicholson who claims he contracted Hepatitis C after working a particularly bloody cage match with the WWE Hall of Fame wrestler. Nicholson claims that after Abdullah gigged him their blood "co-mingled" and Nicholson developed Hepatitis C which prevented him from realizing his dream of working for World Wrestling Entertainment. The lawsuit is asking for $6.5 million in damages including $40,000 each for a number of family members affected by Nicholson having Hepatitis C. Abdullah initially agreed to provide attorneys for Nicholson a blood sample for testing but wavered in doing so which prompted the lawsuit.
- Jesse Neal announced, via Twitter, that he and girlfriend Christina Von Eerie are engaged. Just a note to Jesse, I am available to perform your ceremony and will do so gratis in exchange for trans.
- Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli are said to be very close to signing with the WWE.
- Mick Foley has said he is negotiating with the WWE about a return to the company.
- The Big Show will be out for several months, again, in order to rest, heal and possibly lose weight.
- The NWA World Championship will be decided this weekend at the Ohio State Fair when former champion Adam Pearce battles Chance Prophet and Shawn Tempers. Prophet would make a very interesting champion and he is the current National Heavyweight Champion. The NWA World Championship was vacated recently when the board stripped former champion The Sheik after he posted that he would not be appearing on the show July 31, 2011. Local promotions WAR, OWA, OCW and OVW will be represented at the show as well.
- Former WWE star Al Snow will be appearing for NWA Bluegrass on August 2, 2011 at the Martin County Fair in Inez, Kentucky.
- Bill Goldberg has dropped a lot of weight recently and you can see how he looks now here.
- The CM Punk "Best in the World" t-shirt is now back ordered on WWEShop.com and is taking up to 30 days to be shipped.
- The Hep-C Kid, Sean Waltman has posted a video of Billy Gunn laying out a match with some indie workers. It is said to all be in fun and to prove "that wrestling is fake" but what it really shows is how worthless Sean Waltman has become. The Hep-C kid is ranking up there with Ian Rotten right now.
- Alberto Del Rio is still set to be the WWE Champion but it probably will not happen soon enough to benefit the WWE during their west coast swing. It is hoped that Del Rio will be able to draw in the Latino market but honestly, that way of booking has been dead since the 70s. There has been limited success with Rey Mysterio in that role but nothing like Bruno Sammartino, Antonnio Rocca or Pedro Morales.

Interview with USWA Legendary Commentator Dave Brown
Legendary broadcaster and WMC weatherman Dave Brown spent years at ringside for one of the most popular wrestling shows in history, Memphis Championship Wrestling. With partner Lance Russell, the two have been called the best ever tandem in broadcast history. Brown and Russell were the cornerstone for what, at times, was the craziest, funniest, bloodiest, and most intense wrestling action that the sport will likely never see again. The accolades that can be bestowed upon Dave Brown are many and would take up an entire column and then some just to cover him properly. This interview continues the thoughts and musings of Dave Brown, a commentator that professional wrestling was blessed to have and will never find another like him.
Q. Was it ever difficult to juggle your career with WMC and the USWA?
A. No, because it was set up that way from the time I came to WMC. The only problem was that I could not go to some of the matches and to other cities since I had to be here for my weather forecasts each night.
Q. Who was the best worker you ever saw come through the area?
A. Oh there, were many. I would say that Jackie Fargo and Jerry Lawler could both hold a sold out crowd spellbound. And there were guys like Flex Cavannah (later The Rock) and Kurt Angle who were obviously very talented at a young age. And Sputnik Monroe, whose success helped advance civil rights in the area. He refused to work unless the overflow African American fans were allowed into empty seats in the lower level of the arena. I could probably list 20 who were great in the 35 years I was part of the show.
Q. What was the worst gimmick you ever saw?
A. I despised anything that went potty-mouth. I always felt that was taking a cheap way to go and would hurt the business in the long-term. There was a gimmick I thought was great where Reggie B. Fine kidnapped Koko B. Ware’s bird and came out eating what he said was the bird as we interviewed a shocked Koko. That gimmick did become one of the worst when I saw it done for the fourth or fifth time over the years.
Q. You are the promoter, who are the first five people you hire, past or present?
A. Lance Russell, Jerry Jarrett, Tojo Yamamoto, Hulk Hogan and, of course, Jerry Lawler
Q. Who would you put in your money match?
A. Hulk Hogan and Lawler with a loser leave town stipulation that we could avoid on shady technicalities for two or three weeks before moving on to a new angle.
Q. Do you think Larry Burton helped bring the USWA to an end?
A. Absolutely…he was the worst thing that ever happened to Memphis Wrestling.
Q. How do you think the merger with the GWF went?
A. It did not go well. Another example that you can’t always consolidate and make it work.
Q. What is the best match you have ever seen?
A. Lawler wins the World Championship after years of coming close. The place went nuts. I knew where things were going, yet I was excited to be calling that match with Lance and an electric atmosphere in the Mid-South Coliseum.
Q. Could a group like the USWA survive today with the right talent?
A. Yes…but it would be very difficult. Television viewing is much more fragmented and local television stations have FCC commitments to use much of Saturday and Sunday mornings for children’s programming. And few television stations would give you the time slot and make their money on commercials alone today. They would expect to be paid for the time and share in the commercial profits.
Q. What was the atmosphere like at the studio tapings?
A. It was like a small arena. We would have about 150 people in the audience around two sides of the ring. Tickets were free, but folks had to write in for them. At the height, it was a very hot ticket. We had a waiting list several weeks long.
Q. We you ever nervous when you had to be involved in the angles during interviews?
A. Not really. Because of my position at WMC, the guys were not to mess with me other than verbally. If they crossed that line, they knew they could be banned from the building. My role was to gently nudge the interview in the right direction and be sure the angle was highlighted during the commentary.
Q. How big was Jimmy Valiant to the territory?
A. Huge because Jerry Lawler, our main draw, had broken his leg. We needed someone who could draw for a couple of months while Jerry was out. Jimmy and Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart filled the bill and paid the bills. And later Jerry and Valiant had a very successful run as opponents.
Q. The same with Austin Idol?
A. Austin was one of those guys the promoters would bring in when things were getting a little stale and the program needed some extra pop. I always liked Austin.
Q. The USWA was very creative and ahead of its time with some of the angles, like Jerry Lawler being hit by the car, whose ideas were those and why do you think they were so over?
A. I think Lawler and Eddie Gilbert came up with that one. It was tricky because a police precinct was right across the street from the parking lot and we didn’t want to trigger an uncontrolled police and ambulance response. Lawler was usually involved in his angles. Jerry Jarrett and Randy Hales came up with a bunch of them too.
Q. What do you feel was the best building to run?
A. I love the Louisville Gardens…Well; naturally, I am partial to the Mid-South Coliseum. I was never in the Gardens, but I was very impressed with the way they set up Rupp Arena for a wrestling show. My wife and I rode with Lance and his wife to Lexington on one of the few road trips I got to take.
Q. How close did you and Lance Russell get calling wrestling every weekend?
A. We were…and are…great friends. See, Lance gave me my first job in television on Studio Wrestling when he was Program Director at WHBQ-TV. He later gave me my first regular TV job and my first weather job. By the time we moved to WMC, we had known each other for 13 years.
Q. What was the atmosphere like in the locker room back in those days?
A. In those days of kayfabe there were two locker rooms…one for the heels and one for the baby faces. That changed later. The atmosphere was fun, but business-like. The guys were guests in WMC’s building and the promoter had to pay for any damage, so there was not a lot of horsing around. Also, many of the guys had driven half the night to get here by 9:30 or 10:00 Saturday morning.
Q. If you could change one thing about your career what would it be?
A. Nothing.
Q. Do you miss sitting behind the mic calling the action?
A. Yes, but I don’t miss working on most Saturdays.
Q. If you could see one match again, what would it be?
A. Lawler vs. Andy Kauffman. Arguably the biggest non-New York match ever.
Q. Just how over were Jerry Lawler, Austin Idol and Bill Dundee?
A. They were all completely over. I think we have to give Lance a huge amount of the credit for that. He is the best ever…no contest.
Q. Did the atmosphere of the crowds give you chills much the way the wrestlers claim to get?
A. Yes, you can’t help get a boost of adrenaline no matter how many times you climb into the ring with 11,000 screaming fans in the house. And you realize that you had a part of the responsibility for putting them in those seats.
Q. When you see a botched spot, how difficult is it to cover on the commentary?
A. Most times, not too hard. Sometimes it was impossible and we had to either ignore it or say something like, “Wow he just tried to finish him off, but just couldn’t quite do it yet.” There were a few times when a wrestler missed a high spot and I just hoped he had not injured himself.
Q. Do you consider yourself and Lance Russell the best duo to call matches or who would you say is?
A. Maybe…people have told us that for years, so I gratefully accept the compliment.
Q. In your career was there ever anything you were asked to do that you were reluctant to do?
A. Not that I recall. There were some things that made me cringe, but if I really objected to something, I didn’t do it. Again, my real job at WMC made that mandatory.
Q. If Lance Russell was not your partner, who would you pick?
A. I have no second choice. Lance is the absolute pinnacle.
Q. To what do you contribute your longevity not only in wrestling but also in weather forecasting?
A. Good fortune breaks from great mentors like Lance along the way, and I try to do my job the best I can and not just “phone it in”.
Q. Were you sad to see the USWA come to an end?
A. Yes. I knew it did not have to happen that way. But I also knew Larry Burton SHOULD have had zero input into the whole situation. Once he became entrenched, some could not see him for what he was, and I knew the end was near.
Q. If you were elected to the hall of fame, what would your speech say?
A. Thank you to all the fans who made our show the top-rating television program in Memphis and other markets for so many years. We got ratings that are unheard of today. Thank you WHBQ and WMC for allowing me to be a part of the legend. Thanks to all the wrestlers who travelled the circuit and gave us great Saturday morning television. Thank you Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler for a great promotion. Thanks to my family who put up with my doing the show. And special thanks to my partner and friend Lance Russell without whom I would likely not have had such a long and successful career.
Q. You are considered one of the best broadcasters and best teams in wrestling with Lance, how does that make you feel?
A. It makes me feel humble, but proud. The chemistry was right and we had a great team. I have known Lance Russell for 46 years. In all that time, there has never been a cross word between us. That is pretty darn special!

MMA News for July 27th, 2011
- Nate Marquardt, who was recently cut by the UFC in light of a scandal involving the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission and his use of testosterone, has signed with UK promotion BAMMA.
- In what could be a career ending fight for either man this weekend, Dan Henderson will battle Fedor Emelianenko on PPV. The reported payday for the fighters is over $2 million dollars with Henderson pocketing roughly $800,000 for the fight. Henderson was unceremoniously dumped by the UFC, signed with Strikeforce, which was then bought by the UFC so his longevity with the company is perilous at best. A win would cement Henderson's place in history but may not be enough for the UFC to continue to keep him on the payroll. A loss by Fedor would be his third in a row and put him instantly on the chopping block.
- Tito Ortiz, who is scheduled to fight Rashad Evans at UFC 133 on August 6, 2011, was involved in a minor car accident recently. The accident did not injure the fighter and Ortiz is looking forward to gaining a measure of revenge against Evans.
- Pat Berry will face Stefan Struve on UFC Live 6 on October 1, 2011.
- In news that is somewhat redundant, Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal has said he will fight anyone if the price is right. After his lackluster performance against Rafael Cavalcante in August of last year, a big payday is not in his future unless he shows something against Roger Gracie in September.
- Brock Lesnar is said to be making steady progress in his recovery from surgery and is still looking at a January return date to the Octagon.
- Yes that is UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste kissing a banana shaped like a penis...
- Cung Le has said if he cannot land a deal with the UFC then he is done as a fighter.
- The women's division in MMA is in danger of becoming lost and possibly forgotten if a group does not step-up and embrace it as Strikeforce has done. It is expected that when the ladies contracts expire with Strikeforce they will not be signed by the UFC and eventually Strikeforce will be wholly absorbed by the UFC as well. Right now there is not a significant alternative for the ladies to continue to fight and regardless of how Dana White feels, there is an audience for these fights. Hopefully someone with some stroke will find a way to keep the ladies in the cage.
- In what is a somewhat sad statement, the total payout for Strikeforce Challengers recent show on Showtime totaled less than $100,000.
- Jeff Curran will be returning to the UFC after a seven year absence.
- If you are in need of an MMA cage or a professional wrestling ring and everything in-between please visit friend of the show Monster Rings and Cages.

- Jack Evans, recently of the Destination X PPV offered by Impact Wrestling, has reportedly turned down an offer to join the company because the money was not right.
- Speaking of Impact Wrestling, many outlets continue to call the company TNA after the re-brand.
- Matt Morgan will be out for six to eight weeks with a torn pectoral muscle.
- Ric Flair and his status with Impact Wrestling is tenuous at best right now. After incidents during an overseas tour and most recently at house shows in New York, Flair is though to be on his way out. Being the highest paid member of the roster and not being used on TV is a clear sign that something is amiss.
- A CM Punk shirt, "Best in the World" which was reportedly selling on ebay for $500.00 or more is available from the WWEShop for $24.99.
- Former WWE Diva Tammy "Sunny" Sytch is looking better than ever in a series of photos available here.

Tom Williams and his group are consummate professionals and put on some kick-ass shows and they helped me out of a tough situation. If you are in the area of one of their shows you owe it to yourself to go and check them out.

Wrestling News for July 26, 2011
- News from SummerSlam is that Cee Lo Green is scheduled to perform at the show.
- The Rock will make an appearance at Survivor Series to further the feud between he and John Cena continuing to set-up their match at WrestleMania next year in Miami.
- The IWA Mid-South has reportedly been sold to unnamed investors who are waiting to make an official announcement. The announcement has been expected for some time and the delay is reportedly due to an attempt by the initial investors to bring other benefactors on board. The IWA Mid-South has long been embroiled in controversy due to the actions of longtime owner and wrestler Ian Rotten. The IWA Mid-South is known for its extreme style of booking and matches that tow the line between hard core wrestling and violence. Rotten was buried on a live podcast "And Then The Bell Rings" during which he admitted to violence against lady wrestler Mickie Knuckles and to selling prescription drugs to JC Bailey, who passed away due to complications of post concussion syndrome and drug abuse.
- Rotten announced his retirement from pro wrestling and the closure of IWA Mid-South shortly after his appearance on the podcast. Many fans are taking this latest announcement with a grain of salt since no update has been provided since the initial announcement. The IWA Mid-South message board was wiped clean with the announcement and many are speculating that this is just another feeble attempt by Rotten and those associated with him to swerve fans. There are many who have posted on the message board that they are owed money or tickets from previous incarnations of the group.
- Cody Hall, son of former NWO member Scott Hall, who just recently completed a stint in jail due to his ongoing battle with alcohol addiction, is said to be training with his father and former AWA World Champion Larry Zbyszko for a career in pro wrestling.
- Rob Van Dam has gone on record as saying that younger stars in TNA are not asking the veterans for help and guidance in their career. Well, RVD is not one that would be at the top of the list to ask for career advice, maybe how to score good weed but not how to work.
- Desmond Wolfe was cut from the roster of TNA some time ago amidst rumors that he had Hepatitis C. There was no official reason given for his dismissal other than for a medical reason. As I did with the Chyna story and her having completed a new adult film for Vivid when everyone else was backing away, I will stand by my reporting. There are times when the hardest things to report are the ones that are true.
- The WWE DVD offering "Greatest Cage Matches" is one that is well worth the money.
- More on SummerSlam, the main event is scheduled to be CM Punk v. John Cena to determine who the champion is.
- Davey Richards has been hospitalize with a staph infection and no word on his upcoming bookings with ROH.
- The Young Bucks are expected to return to ROH after their TNA experience left them empty.
- Dave Hebner underwent heart surgery and is expected to recover fully.
- Kane is expected to be off TV for at least three months selling the broken leg. It will be interesting to see if Kane appears in public without a cast or crutches in that time period.
- I recently saw a photo of The Undertaker without his trademark long hair and looking somewhat gaunt. Undertaker has been out for sometime to rehab and heal lingering injuries and recent surgery, he is expected to return at WrestleMania if not before as part of an angle.
- Friend of the show Jerry Wilson will present "Summer Blast" on August 6, 2011 at the 4-H Building in Columbus, Indiana at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds. "Bad Attitude" Brian Beech, Flash Flanagan and Sexy Shawn Cook are scheduled to be part of the show along with "Diceman" Ronnie Vegas and TJ Powers as well as others.
- Congratulations to Gregory Iron, longtime listener first time caller to this show and others produced by Jerry Wiseman. Iron has done a number of interviews with me and he is great in the ring in spite of his disability. Iron was put out in the spotlight recently by CM Punk and is now doing interviews and appearances. Many outlets are focusing on his disability, Cerebral Palsy, instead of his ability, a damn good worker.
- Hulk Hogan is pulling a page out of Ric Flair's book and offering phone calls for $495.
- The Miz is the #1 Wrestler according to the worked "PWI 500" put forth by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Congratulations for what it is worth.
- Sin Cara is in hot water with the WWE after going on record, albeit briefly, that he did not fail a Wellness Test for steroids. The WWE was not happy with his announcement in a Mexican newspaper and if there was hesitation about whether or not to bring him back, that is gone now.
- News, podcasts, interviews, commentary, questions, answers, analysis and more all coming soon to this location. Stay tuned...
